"Running" Playlist

So I recently noticed that some of the songs on my running playlist talk about running in some way. It's really kind of interesting. For instance:

Cowboy Casanova - Carrie Underwood
He’s a, a good time cowboy Casanova
Leaning up against the record machine
Looks like a cool drink of water
But he’s candy-coated misery
He’s the devil in disguise
A snake with blue eyes
And he only comes out at night
Gives you feelings that you don’t want to fight
You better run for your life
Yep, I'm not ashamed to admit that I really like that song, and it's a really good song to run to (maybe because I'm a cowboy Casanova?). Here's another example:
You're Gonna Go Far, Kid - The Offspring
With a thousand lies
And a good disguise
Hit 'em right between the eyes
Hit 'em right between the eyes
When you walk away
Nothing more to say
See the lightning in your eyes
See 'em running for their lives
I don't know if it's coincidental or a bit subconscious on my part, but I think it's kinda cool. This next one is a really good one, 'cause Busta raps it fast!
Look At Me Now - Chris Brown (ft. Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes)
Let's go!
'Cause I'm feeling like I'm running
And I'm feeling like I gotta get away, get away, get away
Better know that I don't and I won't ever stop
'Cause you know I gotta win everyday, day
Go!
See they really really wanna pop me
Just know that you will never flop me
And I know that I can be a little cocky
Ohhh
You ain't never gonna stop me
Now, if you're anything like me, you have a go-to song to push you through a tough part of a race. I especially like having a song that makes me give absolutely everything I have left at the end of the race. This is that song for me:
Welcome to the Black Parade - My Chemical Romance
Do or die, you'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Go and you try, you'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part

I won't explain or say I'm sorry
I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scar
Give a cheer for all the broken
Listen here, because it's who we are

I'm just a man, I'm not a hero
Just a boy who had sing this song
Just a man, I'm not a hero
I don't care!

We'll carry on, we'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone, believe me
Your memory will carry on, we'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
You're weary widow marches on

Do or die, you'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Though you try, you'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part

Do or die, you'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Though you try, you'll never break me
We want it all, we'll carry on
Not to mention the guitar and drums during that part of the song (right at the end) are ridiculous. If that don't make you want to sprint to the finish, I don't know what will. Check it out for yourself!

Here are some other songs that don't specifically mention running (but are definitely still motivational):
Famous Last Words - My Chemical romance
I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home
Heart of a Champion - Nelly
I got that can't stop, won't stop, in my veins
That's why they can't stop, won't stop, screaming the name
NELLY! NELLY! Go tell a friend to tell a friend
I'ma keep the same grin whether I, lose or win
Up, or down ten, I'ma fight to the end
[breathing hard] Let's go

Ain't no way they can stop me now, Nelly
Cause I'm on my way, I can feel my ring coming
It's the blood of a champion, pumping
Deep inside my veins, too much pride to be running
I'ma get what I can and more, even if
My blood, my sweat, and my tears don't mean nothing
It's the heart of a champion (it's the heart of a ...)
(It's the heart of a ...) in me

...

If hard work pays off then easy work is worthless
My work habit ain't no habit, man, I do it on purpose
I push myself to the limit so my talent'll surface
I seriously would not be able to run without my music.  And I'm always looking for new music, so if you have some good suggestions, leave me a comment!

  1. I've been running to the Gym Class Heroes station on Pandora. So far it's been a nice mix to keep me going. I'm always curious about what everyone else is listening to when they run. I'll have to check out the My Chemical Romance song you mentioned on here.

  2. That would be a good station to run to!

Lately I've been running to just about anything. I'm finally at a point where I'm getting more relaxed while running (I guess that's the best way to put it... I don't always feel like I'm dying and can actually enjoy it), so I don't rely so much on my music. There have been some runs lately that I couldn't tell you half of the songs I listened to.

And since headphones aren't allowed in most triathlons, I've even done some runs without them.

But I definitely still enjoy music while running! Let me know if you come across some new stuff!
