I've Never Been This Excited About a Glass

Last week, Dogfish Head and Sierra Nevada brewing companies debuted a new style of beer glass. It's designed specifically for IPAs, which is probably my favorite style of beer.

So yeah, I had to get one -- for research, of course. ;)

My glass won't come in until Wednesday, so let's just look at the pretty pictures they posted of it for now.

It's laser etched on the bottom (like the Sam Adams glass) so it will continuously release bubbles (which helps with head retention they say).

The ridges are supposed to help aerate the beer as you pour it and while you drink it, which should really help open up the hop aroma, and the tulip-style top and wide-mouth rim will really let you "nose" the beer. I'm not sure if it will really work, but it all makes sense.

Either way, I'm sure I'll look pretty fancy drinking a beer out of this thing.

Here's the official announcement.

I'm already making plans to pick up some good IPAs so I can do a side-by-side comparison with a regular pint glass this weekend.

I'll be sure to report my findings. :-)
