BBC Friday Night Fun Run

Last night I went to my second BBC Friday Night Fun Run. I went for the first time about a month ago, and I've been trying to make it back down there ever since (which is difficult with a newborn, and getting sick didn't help).

Ironically, I was the only one who made it last night.

Typically, everyone meets down at the BBC taproom on Clay and Main at 5:30pm, goes for a run, then meets back at the taproom for a few beers.

The best part? The beers are only $2.25 for a pint! (Including Bourbon Barrel Stout!)

I'll run for a $2 beer any day!

Here are some pictures I grabbed during my run last night and a few from last month.

The new "Big 4" pedestrian bridge:

This used to be an old railroad bridge that's recently been converted to a pedestrian bridge.

They're still not done with the ramp on the Indiana side, though.

A few pictures from the Indiana side of the river:

Back on the Kentucky side, this sign marks how high the river was during the flood of 1937. For reference, I'm about 6' 1", and my head comes to the bottom of the "No Parking" sign under the flood sign.

Here's the other side of that sign. Imagine all that under water!

Here's where the keep the horses that pull the buggies -- just down from the ball field.

Here's a good example of how our city isn't geared toward cyclists at all. This is part of the Louisville Loop -- a bike path that's currently being developed that, when complete, will literally loop around the entire city.

Not exactly the best thing to ride on, but it's definitely better than having to deal with cars on the road!

That path just sorta ends there. There's a bike crossing sign on the road here, but the path never picks up on the other side:

And this seems to be the sentiment about cyclists here:

Back at the taproom!

The reward for a good run:

My Garmin was dead, so I had to use RunKeeper on my phone to keep track of my distance. And even though I only had a 2 mile easy run on the calendar, I decided to go closer to 4 since I hadn't gotten a run in yet this week. I ended up doing 3.75 in just over 34 minutes, for an average pace of 9:11/mile.

I'm really hoping I can make it to the fun runs more than once a month. This is a really great idea, and I definitely want to support it so it continues.

If any of you are free on a Friday and want to go, let me know and I'll make sure to go with you!
