Official KDF Marathon/miniMarathon Training Program Kickoff - TONIGHT!

Tonight is the official kickoff for the Norton Sports Health Training Program for the Derby Festival Marathon/miniMarathon, and I'm pretty pumped about it!

Although I'm already well into my 24-week-long No Meat Athlete Marathon Roadmap plan, I'm still going to the kickoff meeting to answer any questions and hopefully meet some new faces.

And I'm hoping to arrange my schedule so I can meet up with the group for some of my long runs.

Speaking of training, it's been an interesting couple of weeks.

In December I managed to log about the same number of miles as I did in November:

November: 54.11 miles in 9:56:02 for 6,443 calories
December: 51.96 miles in 9:21:02 for 6,690 calories

I would have logged more, but right before Christmas I sprained my lower back and I was out of commission for a solid week. Luckily I was pretty much back to normal after a few visits to the chiropractor, and she gave me the green light to start running again. [I was afraid running would make it worse, since even just sitting was somewhat painful, but I was surprised to find that I didn't feel a thing when I went running!]

So now that I've recovered from that and the holidays are behind us, it's time to really focus and get down to business.

So far, January is off to a great start, with one minor exception -- last week I did some intervals at the park with Huntie, and there was one little stretch of the path that was still covered by a mini glacier.

We got across it okay on the way out, but on the way back (while trying to jog on the grass next to the ice, no less), I hit a slick spot and went down. I landed mostly on my right side and didn't hurt anything (thankfully), but my sunglasses didn't fare so well...

They were in my right hand, so they cushioned my fall, I guess.

If you decide to come out tonight, make sure you stop by and say "hi!" It's at Dupont Manual High School (in the gym) and it starts at 6:00pm!
